About

Hi there dear visitor, thanks for dropping by. My name is Ernst-Jan Pfauth (1986) and I owe everything in my career to blogging.

I come from a family of journalists and when I was selected for an internship at the United Nations in New York during the winter of 2007, I thought the opportunity to work for a newspaper was finally there. Turns out no Dutch news outlet needed my services. So I started my own - a blog called Spotlight Effect - and helped founding tech blog The Next Web as editor in chief. Two years later, the newspapers called me. Combining the craftsmanship of traditional journalism and the power of new media seemed like a perfect challenge, so I started working for ‘The New York Times of Holland’: NRC Handelsblad. After restyling their news site nrc.nl (adding a lot of blog dynamics, such as live reports) in 2011, I I joined De Correspondent as the publisher.

By the way, I love a good book. That’s way I host the Dutch talk show Literaturfest in which actors, writers, politicians and musicians talk about their favorite book. Oh, and I also collect photos of great writers at work. Yes, really. Here’s a video to prove it:
